Damascus, (ST)- Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Adib Mayaleh discussed with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Damascus Qi Qianjin ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, particularly in trade and economic fields.
During the meeting, the Minister underlined the importance of benefiting from China’s economic experience to achieve the economic development process in Syria, taking into account the unique characteristics of each of the two countries, pointing out that China is an important trade partner for Syria that calls for increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two sides and facilitating the flow of Syrian exports to Chinese markets and the transfer of Chinese technology to develop Syrian industry.
Dr. Mayaleh pointed to the importance of China’s participation in the reconstruction process in Syria, in particular, that the priority in this area will be to friendly firms to Syria.
For his part, the Chinese ambassador said that his government is interested in the development of trade and economic relations with Syria and that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce encourages public and private companies in China in the implementation of foreign projects in other countries in implementation of the Silk Initiative announced by Chinese President in 2013, which aims to support and enhance economic cooperation between the countries.
