DAMASCUS, (ST) – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Hammam Al Jaza’iri confirmed that 2014 has realized an agricultural and industrial growth in production compared with the last year and this was evident by increasing exports and domestic production of food, clothing and leather goods.
The minister said in a press statement that the pharmaceutical industry has also improved high rate but the challenge in this context is the restoration of production workshops and restoring large production capacity in addition to the improvement in poultry production and the increase in agricultural production of fruits and vegetables, but “we still need to improve productivity and marketing ability of strategic crops and rehabilitation of livestock to return as they were previously. “
“The economic policy is based on targeting the stability of the Syrian pound exchange and strengthening its price by focusing on the development of the elements of production, export and it integrates this role with the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Syria, which is based on the intervention in the markets and the expansion of the financing of imports by focusing on financing production inputs and primary and fundamental materials,” he said.
The last action of the Central Bank of Syria, the minister added, to provide flexibility for the exchange companies to finance imports comes in this framework and the largest share to finance essential imports of production, food and medicine requirements is offered by banks and contribute to exchange companies in the financing of additional share of imports to provide greater flexibility to increase the supply of foreign exchange and to meet demand for the purpose of import.
The Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade pointed to the importance of the initiative recently launched by the Syrian exporters in cooperation with the Union of Industrialists to support the Syrian pound in the various provinces, indicating that despite the symbolism of this initiative, it reflects the national responsibility of industrialists towards the national economy.
