Economic Committee: The concerned authorities continue to deal with the repercussions and effects of the earthquake

Damascus (ST): During its meeting, in the presence of the heads and representatives of the federations of the Chambers of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Tourism, the Economic Committee stressed the need for the continuation of the efforts of all concerned parties, including government institutions, the national business sector, and associations concerned with relief and humanitarian work, to deal in an organized manner with the repercussions and effects of the earthquake.

The participants discussed a number of proposals, including the relief file and the initiatives presented by the chambers in the governorates and the national business sector, mechanisms for dealing with the repercussions of the disaster, and scenarios for the unions’ contribution to securing housing for those whose homes collapsed as a result of the earthquake, which led to a great loss of life and damage to the property of the people and infrastructure in the affected areas. A number of participants presented a set of ideas and proposals in this context.

The Chairman of the Economic Committee, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, stressed the need to organize and coordinate procedures, steps and initiatives on the ground, which are carried out by the concerned authorities in the public and private sectors in various governorates, in order to achieve the best possible response to the repercussions of the earthquake, relieve the affected citizens and ensure that aid reaches those who deserve it.
