Economic blockade imposed on the Syrians impedes solving the crisis in Syria, hinders complete elimination of terrorism

NEW YORK, (ST)- Chargé d’Affaires of  Syria’s Permanent Delegation to the United Nations Louai Fallouh has stressed that the economic terrorism and blockade imposed on the Syrian people by countries that keep interfering in Syria’s internal affairs impedes solving the crisis in the country and hinders the complete elimination of terrorism.

During a Security Council session on Thursday, Fallouh said that some of the council’s members maintain their hostility to Syria and its partners in the war on terrorism and they keep fabricating accusations against the country.

He reiterated that Syria categorically rejects the draft resolution submitted to the Security Council by the so-called humanitarian co-penholders because it is totally far from the humanitarian purposes proposed in it.

The content of the draft resolution reveals the real incentives behind its submission, on top, escalating the atmospheres of hostility inside UNSC against Syria and targeting its basic role, the Syrian diplomat said

He affirmed that humanitarian action should be based on respecting national sovereignty, pointing out that this is what the Security Council resolutions on Syria stress.

He called for putting an end to the clear piracy process being practiced by the US against the resources and revenues of Syrian oil and gas which belong to the Syrian State, not to any other party.

Fallouh also expressed Syria’s rejection of the notification policy as it does not meet the minimum transparency, credibility and standards of respecting the national sovereignty.

He made it clear that putting an end to the suffering of the Syrian people requires  commitment to respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to supporting  its efforts in combating the remaining terrorists.

He said that Syria calls on the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to build a professional and balanced relationship with the Syrian government, reiterating the need to lift the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on Syria and end the illegal presence of foreign troops on the Syrian soil.
