During a solidarity stand, the Syrian community in Cuba demands the lifting of the unjust blockade on Syria
Havana (ST): The Syrian Embassy in the Cuban capital, Havana, and the Cuban branch of the National Union of Syrian Students held a stand in solidarity with Syria due to the devastating earthquake that struck the country last Monday.
A large number of the Syrian community residing in Cuba participated in the solidarity stand, most of whom are Syrian students studying in Cuban universities, students from nationalities of friendly countries, representatives of Cuban institutions, youth, trade union and student organizations, representatives of Palestinian, Lebanese and Yemeni popular organizations, and a number of Latin personalities. They called to break the siege imposed on Syria and to lift all illegal unilateral coercive measures against the Syrian people, especially in light of the ordeal and pain they are currently experiencing due to the devastating earthquake.
During the event, the participants raised and chanted slogans calling for lifting the unjust Western blockade imposed on Syria, especially in light of its need for foodstuffs, medical supplies, medicines, and heavy engineering machinery to remove rubble and wreckage of buildings in order to reduce the number of victims and save what can be saved.
In his speech, the Syrian Ambassador, Dr. Ghassan Obaid, gave a detailed presentation on the efforts made by the government to confront what happened in the areas affected by the devastating earthquake.
He praised the humanitarian initiatives sent by many friendly countries to Syria to help the Syrian people cope with the effects of the earthquake.
