Damascus (ST): Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, discussed during a telephone conversation today with the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the situation in the region and the international arena, in particular the bilateral relations and ways to develop and strengthen them to serve the common interests of the two friendly peoples.
Jaishankar conveyed the greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to President Bashar Al-Assad and his wife, and his wishes for a speedy recovery from infection with the Covid-19 virus.
Minister Jaishankar, on behalf of the Indian government, also expressed feelings of solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic in facing the current challenges left by the terrorist war against it and the negative repercussions caused by the Corona crisis, especially the economic challenges, stressing the need to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries.
The Indian Foreign Minister pointed out that his country, which recently became a non-permanent member of the Security Council is committed to the United Nations Charter and international law for the benefit of the peoples of the world, and that India’s stance towards Syria is stable based on the historical relationship between the two countries and ties of friendship and respect.
In turn, Dr. Al-Miqdad thanked the Indian minister for his good feelings, expressing his appreciation for India’s supportive stance to Syria in its war on terrorism and his gratitude for the aid it sent to Syria in the last period to face the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.
Dr. Al-Miqdad stressed the necessity of pushing bilateral relations forward and enhancing the prospects of constructive cooperation in a way that elevates these relations to the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.
