The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) expressed its full support of the United Nations resolution for Palestine’s full membership, the DPRK’s Foreign Ministry said on Sunday, criticizing the United States for vetoing the move.
The stance came after the U.N. General Assembly urged the Security Council to give “favorable consideration” to full Palestinian membership on Friday.
“The DPRK fully supports it,” a spokesperson for the foreign ministry said in a statement reported by the Korean Central News Agency, noting that the rights of Palestinians are “mercilessly violated” by the U.S.
Last month, the U.S. vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution that would have recognized Palestine’s full membership, a status that Palestinians had long sought at the U.N.
Palestine has been a “nonmember observer state” at the U.N. since 2012.
