Dozens of films take part in 3rd session of ‘Youth Cinema and Short Films’ Festival in Damascus

Syria’s General Cinema Institute in cooperation with the Damascus Opera House launched Thursday the 3rd session of the ‘Youth Cinema and Short Films’ Festival where scores of films will be screened.

The festival includes an official competition among the films come within the project of supporting youth cinema plus screening short films produced by the General Cinema Institute and the winning films in the previous session, according to the Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper.

The paper added that the Festival’s judging committee is chaired by the Director Najdat Anzour and contains 5 members.

Among the films that will take part in the festival’s competition, we can number: the beginning, small dreams, tomorrow, ash, long day and red jasmine. Most of the films focus on the consequences of the terror war being waged on Syria.

The writer Hasan. M. Yousef, who is a member of the judging committee, told the official news agency (SANA) that the festival encourages youths to compete with directors of short films in the world.

“The Syrian cinema is still defending the Syrian Arab identity,” he added.

On his part, Anzour stressed that youths show the Syrian social fabric through cinema.

The festival will last until April 26th.
