Director General of the General Administration of the Ministry of Defense: Legislative Decree No. (31) provides facilities for young Syrians who want to return home

On November 9, Director General of the General Administration of the Ministry of Defense General Ahmed Suleiman said that Legislative Decree No. (31) for the year 2020, issued by President Bashar Al-Assad, amended some articles of Legislative Decree No. (30) dated 3-5-2007 and its amendments, including the law on military service.

General Suleiman said that the new Decree encourages and provides facilities for young Syrians who want to return to their homeland after the terrorist war imposed on Syria forced them to emigrate and work with their families in other countries.

General Suleiman stated that the Ministry of Defense and the General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces stresses that military service, as stipulated in the constitution, is a sacred duty.

General Suleiman said that only drafted males who it has been decided that they should be placed in ‘fixed service’ by the Medical Council can pay three thousand US dollars or its equivalent in Syrian pounds so as not to join the military service.

For his part, Colonel Ali Bilal from the General Directorate of Recruitment explained that Decree (31) included amendments in terms of value and duration of residency, as the slides increased to become six segments of a cash allowance according to the time period.

Colonel Bilal said that the greater the period, the lower the value of the allowance that starts from 7 thousand dollars for those with four years of residency outside the country before or after the age of assignment, $ 8,000 for those with a 3-year residency outside the country, $ 9,000 for those with two-year residency, and $ 10,000 for those with one year of residency outside Syria.

Colonel Bilal emphasized that it is not possible to equalize the person who performed the military service and the one who paid the allowance.

Colonel Bilal said that the one who paid the allowance cannot be given equal privileges to the one who performed the military service.
