Diplomat: Syrian-Russian strategic relations are stronger than ever

Russia’s Ambassador in Damascus Alexander Efimov has affirmed that Syrian-Russian strategic relations are stronger than ever. 
In an interview with Damascus-based al-Watan newspaper, Efimov made it clear that rumors that Damascus and Moscow are at odds are groundless. 
 
“Those who insist on viewing the cooperation between Moscow and Damascus in a false way seek to distort all achievements and positive steps made between the two countries over the past recent years, ” the ambasador said . 
 
He stressed that his country will continue supporting the legitimate Syrian authorities and helping them defend the Syrian people’s rights within the frame work of the international hunanitarian law. 
 
As for terrorist groups’ violations of ceasefire agreement in the de-escalation zone, the diplomat emphasized that this agreement does not delete at any rate the necessity of going ahead with combatting terrorism . 
 
“The Syrian territories must be under the control of the legitimate Syrian authorities as soon as possible,” Efimov concluded.
