The Al-Shaab Gallery for Fine Arts in Damascus recently hosted the solo exhibition of artist Nasser Salama Obeid entitled “Different Harvest”.
60 panels of different sizes, mixing between photography and painting, were showcased, reflecting the artist’s creative vision and skill in depicting various topics in an impressionist and abstract way. The artworks are the harvest of more than ten years of work by Obeid.
Obeid achieved his works through using the digital printing and filtering technology and then adding acrylic and oil colors to the panel.
“I adopted a new technique in this exhibition. I used the camera just like the painter uses the brush in drawing and then I added acrylic and oil colors to the paintings to express my ideas,” artist Obeid told Syriatimes.
He believes that the camera is a means that matches the eye which sees, the mind that contains culture and experience and the hand that works to produce magnificent artworks. He indicated that his works reflect an unfamiliar way in photography.
“I tried in this exhibition to highlight the most important stages of social life during the last 10 years and I called it “Different Harvest” because it is not only about painting”, he said.
“The themes of the works in the exhibition are inspired by our local environment and they belong to the impressionist school. The works reflect my own point of view and leave the interpretation to the viewers” Obeid added.
It is worth mentioning that the artist Nasser Obeid graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Damascus University in 1985. He holds a Master’s degree in interior architecture. He is a member of the Union of Fine Artists and Photography Club.
