DGAM’s struggle against terrorism

The Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums has issued a new book containing 25 articles written in Arabic and English by some members of the DGAM’s staff on measures adopted to protect archeological sites during the terror war on Syria.

” Syrian archeological heritage … Five years of crisis 2011-2015″ is the title of the 387-page book, which is a continuation of the previous reports and books issued by the DGAM in 2011.

The DGAM’s staff has worked in difficult circumstances to save the Syrian heritage, the Director-General of the DGAM Dr. Maamoun Abdulkarim said in the book.

While Minister of Culture Issam Khalil asserted in an statement that the war on Syria targets our identity and existence. “Our war against the obscurantist thinking is the war of humanity,” he said, according to the official news agency (SANA).

The agency clarified that the science supervisors of the new book are both Dr. Maamoun Abdulkarim [DGAM’s Director-General] and architect Lina Kutiefan [Director of Syrian World Heritage Sites].

The book issued in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture includes information about the country’s heritage sites damaged in all provinces.
