DFID Admits Part of Financial Aid Sent to Syria Has Fallen into Terrorists’ Hands

LONDON, (ST)-The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has admitted that millions of pounds collected within the framework of international humanitarian aid to be sent to Syria may have fallen into the hands of terrorist organizations like Daesh and Jabhat al-Nusra.

According to a Daily Mail report on Sunday, the Department has admitted that there is a serious risk from the “large scale diversion of aid, including for the purposes of terrorism”.

Media reports have revealed some British charity associations are used as a cover to raise funds and send them to terrorist organizations in Syria.

Following growing criticism, the British government announced plans to toughen it laws and enhance its control over the activities of some associations, networks and individuals which raise funds for alleged charitable purposes, but in fact they send them along with weapons and military equipment to the terrorists in Syria and Iraq.

The DFID leads the UK’s work to end extreme poverty and to end the need for aid by creating jobs, unlocking the potential of girls and women and helping to save lives when humanitarian emergencies hit.
