Developing national strategy to support the creative industries

Damascus (ST): The recommendations of the Creative Industries Conference launched by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Higher Commission for Scientific Research and the Syrian Virtual University focused on the importance of launching a national program in the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with all concerned parties, to support and promote creative industries, supervise its implementation steps, and develop a national strategy to revitalize and activate these industries.

The recommendations indicated the need to work on localizing the concept of Syrian creative industries according to the Syrian reality, increasing activities, events, meetings and workshops to introduce the creative  products, stressing the need for integration between knowledge-generating and investing entities.

They also affirmed the necessity of deepening the culture of integration and collective and creative work in addition to creating support and investment funds for these  industries,  securing new incubators for creative crafts in various sectors that accommodate creators and providing technical support to them and work to develop the legislative environment supportive of creative industries.They stressed the importance of capacity building and linking educational institutions and the labor market and supporting small, medium and large projects, and emphasizing the need for a creative media case to promote the creative product.

The recommendations concluded with the necessity of linking the creative industries and their consuming markets in all sectors, by finding new paths for production, distribution and consumption of creative goods and services, promotion and marketing of them in traditional ways and through modern technical media both internally and externally.They also stressed the necessity of working to transform the national economy into a knowledge-based economy that helps in the emergence of creative industries to ensure sustainable development, and the creation of global mechanisms and standards to measure and evaluate the quality of the creative product.
