Despite difficult education circumstances, 140,000 students head to their schools in Hasakah

The new academic year started in Syria yesterday. Millions of students in all Syrian governorates headed to their schools to pursue education despite difficulties.

In Hasakah, more than 140,000 students went to their schools despite all challenges and overcrowding at schools, according to Hasakah Education Director Ilham Sourkhan.

She told “Al-Watan Online” Newspaper that families insisted to send their children to continue their education according to the curricula adopted by the Syrian Education Ministry, even though the children have to walk for a long distance to reach their schools.

Hasakah Governor Ghassan Halim Khalil, on his part, said that 80% of the schools in Hasakah have become out of the government control and they are used for non-educational purposes by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia. He called on this militia to leave the schools and let the children resume their study, stressing that closing the schools affects the children of Hasakah, not the children of the US, British and French occupiers.
