Deputy Foreign Minister of Norway: Lifting sanctions imposed on Syria necessary to improve the situation of the health sector

The Acting Minister of Health Maher Al-Sharaa on Tuesday discussed with the Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Krafvik ways to enhance health cooperation between the two countries.

Al-Sharaa noted the difficulties facing the health sector during the current period and highlighted Norway’s efforts to support Syria.

He explained that focus is being put currently on primary healthcare, preventive medicine in the areas of cancer and chronic diseases, and attention to mental health, especially among women and children.

He also emphasized the importance of improving medical competencies through continuous medical education and enhancing the Syrian board certification.

For his part, Krafvik affirmed the importance of the international community’s role in lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria to improve the situation of the health sector, secure the energy necessary to health facilities and centers, and build a health sector that meets the needs of the Syrian people.
