Dentists Syndicate: 60 Arab, Foreign Dental Companies Break Siege Imposed on Syria
Head of Dentists Syndicate in Syria Fadia Deeb said Sunday that more than 5000 Syrian dentists are participating in the currently held 18th International Scientific Conference of Dentists Syndicate, pointing out that 60 Arab and foreign companies specialized in dental equipment are taking part in the exhibition accompanying the conference.
The three-day conference kicked off Saturday in Damascus after a six-year pause to shed light on up-to-date developments in dentistry through some 60 lectures by Syrian and foreign specialists. There will be also a prize for the best Syrian invention in dentistry.
According to Deeb, several American, British and German lecturers will participate in online discussions to be broadcast live during the conference.
“We have communicated with American and British universities to apply live online stream so as to present lectures by several American, British and German experts during the conference,” she told Damascus-based al-Wantan newspaper, affirming that the Arab and world companies participating in the event have broken the siege imposed on Syria.
Dr. Deeb indicated that 500 Syrian dentists came from Aleppo to take part in the conference despite difficulties in the city.
In this context, local Tishreen newspaper quoted Health Minister Nizar Wahbeh Yazigi as saying in a speech at the opening ceremony of the conference that tens of hospitals and health centers have become out of service because of terrorist organizations’ attacks that have also killed 270 health sector workers and injured 245 others.
22 million medical services
“Dozens of hospitals and hundreds of health centers and ambulances have been targeted by terrorist organizations, which are still kidnapping 22 workers in health sector,” the minister added, affirming that despite challenges hospitals and health centers offered last year 22 million medical services nationwide and managed to put an end to the spread of Polio which was discovered in Deir Ezzour province in 2013.
“No polio case has been registered since 2014,” Dr. Yazigi confirmed.
Dr. Cristano Moriano from Italian University told Tishreen newspaper that his participation in the conference aims to support Syria and its people and to share scientific experiences.
Another comment was made by head of Dentists Syndicate in Yemen Dr. Mo’ataz al-Qorashi, who spent 4 days to arrive in Damascus. “Syria is the most important capital in the Middle East in the field of dentistry. So our participation in the conference is important to have an idea about all scientific developments. In addition, our participation proves our support for Syria in confronting terrorism,” he said.
Dr. Ihab Fahmi from Egypt wished the conference success, pointing out that the huge number of participants proves that it is a successful meeting.
Dr. al-Monji al-Ammori from Tunis said that the conference reflects Syria’s determination to achieve victory.
