Dendi: Preventing the Security Council from stopping the crimes of the Israeli occupation reveals the hypocrisy of the West

New York (ST) – Acting Chargé d’Affairs of the Permanent Delegation of Syria to the UN, Dr. Al-Hakam Dendi, affirmed that the United States and European countries’ prevention of the Security Council from putting an end to the crimes of the Israeli occupation reveals its hypocrisy and the falsity of its claims about ensuring the protection of human rights.

He indicated that the ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and the repeated attacks on Syrian lands reflect an inherent tendency of the Zionist entity to crime and destruction.

During the ministerial meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue, Dendi stressed that the dangerous developments taking place in the Middle East region, with the continuation of the brutal aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip for 110 days, and the repeated occupation attacks on Syrian territory, are a link in the chain of Israeli crimes that have continued for more than 75 years.

Dendi indicated that the occupation continues with its unjust siege on Gaza Strip, prevents the entry of humanitarian aid, and uses internationally prohibited weapons in its aggression against it, including phosphorus incendiary bombs,  disregarding all international laws and humanitarian principles.

“It is shameful that the United States and some European countries are trying to legitimize the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip under the title of self-defense, and to turn the criminal into a victim,” he added.

“We ask those who have been claiming preserving human rights, protecting civilians and providing aid to them, and ensuring accountability, Where is their enthusiasm today for those principles? What are they doing to protect the Palestinian people from the Israeli killing machine?”.

Dandi renewed Syria’s call on the Security Council to take effective and immediate steps to end the suffering of the Palestinian people by stopping the ongoing occupation attacks, providing urgent humanitarian support, preventing forced displacement, and ensuring the accountability of the occupation and its supporters for these crimes.

He noted that in furtherance of its hostile policies, the occupation is launching repeated attacks on Syrian territory targeting residential neighborhoods and vital facilities, including civilian ports and airports, endangering the lives of civilians and the safety of civil aviation, and hampering United Nations humanitarian operations.

“Syria, once again, warns (Israel) and its sponsors against continuing these aggressive policies that threaten to ignite the region and push it towards a comprehensive escalation that threatens regional and international peace and security”, Dendi satated. He called on the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to the aggressive approach, and to work urgently to end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, and implementing relevant UN resolutions.

Dendi stressed that the European Union delegation used to exploit the Security Council to raise issues related to the situation in Syria that were not related to the topic of the session, in an open effort to divert attention from the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in the region, and from the wrong policies of the European Union that contribute to prolonging the crisis in Syria, and exacerbating the suffering of the Syrian people.
