Demonstrations in Sweden against joining NATO

Hundreds of Swedes demonstrated in the streets of Gothenburg, rejecting their country’s accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

According to the Swedish newspaper “Gothenburg-Posten”, the demonstrators denounced Sweden’s accession to NATO.

“We are here because we want to maintain freedom from alliances,” said Gunel Berg, one of the demonstrators and one of the organizers of the Gutenberg Peace Committee.

In May of last year, Sweden submitted a request to join NATO, and the Swedish Parliament approved it last month, but talks are still ongoing in this regard.
