Democrats block congressional approval of aid to Israel

Washington (ST): In a rare event, Democratic representatives forced the US House of Representatives to refuse to provide financial aid to the Israeli occupation entity.

According to what was reported by the (Israeli) Walla website, “the approval of US military aid to Israel worth $1 billion was postponed following the opposition of a group of Democratic members of Congress and their refusal to vote in favor of the budget if it included the Iron Dome item.”

The website indicated that following the statements made by members of Congress before voting on the law in the House of Representatives, the item was deleted from the budget law, pointing out that it will be incorporated into the security budget law, which will be presented for voting  only after months.

For his part, an official in the occupation entity admitted in statements to the site that there is a majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate for emergency military assistance to Israel, but in the political situation that arose around the budget law, a number of progressive Democratic representatives helped them block the law.

US President Joe Biden had committed to providing military aid to the occupation entity and reiterated his commitment during his recent meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett at the White House, but the opposition of his party members did not allow this budget to be passed and the vote on it was postponed.
