DAMASCUS, (ST)-The delegations representing Syria’s friendly parliaments, independent personalities and non-government organizations, which were invited to follow up the presidential elections in Syria, described the elections as legal and legitimate.
In their consultative meeting at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus, the delegations stressed that the elections were held in a democratic, transparent and honest atmosphere.
Joe Ayo Speaker, member of the International Alliance against War and member of the Anti-War Committee in Chicago, said the delegation visited Homs yesterday and noticed how huge the US-backed catastrophe from which the Syrian people have been suffering was.
“The delegation also noticed the victory of the Syrian people through the massive turnout on voting in presidential elections and felt the solidarity of the political parties under the leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad,” Speaker added.
“We will come back to our countries and say that the electoral process was achieved with complete honesty and that the Syrian people need support to confront aggressors and occupiers,” he said hoping that a soon end will be put to the suffering of the Syrian people who “have proved to be the best to embody humanitarian values and resistance against unjust phenomena.”
Irish researcher Dyclan Haiz, for his part, affirmed his solidarity with the Syrian people and government in their effort to achieve victory over the terrorism Syria is facing.
He pointed out that through their participating in presidential elections, the Syrians sent the world a message stressing that the terrorists, who announced that they will target Damascus and other Syrian cities with mortars, will never win thanks to the Syrian Arab Army, the protector of all the Syrians.
The delegations affirmed that the Syrian people’s great turnout on voting sent messages asserting the steadfastness of the resistance front against the aggression which has been targeting social diversity in Syria.
The messages also affirm that before the crisis, President Al-Assad enjoyed great popularity and amity by his people and now this amity and popularity have become greater, the delegation said.
They also stressed that the Syrians’ messages also assert their determination to continue the reform process.
