In a speech delivered by Dr. Hnaidi on behalf of Dr. Muhammad Al-Hawrani, President of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, the delegation stressed the importance of cooperation between the two unions, which resulted in the joint publishing project between the two unions, as the Writers Union in Syria printed three books by Iraqi writers, and the first copies of them were presented to the Secretary-General of the Union of Writers in Iraq.
As part of the Syrian days in Baghdad, a poetry event was held that included various readings by Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian and Iraqi poets.
Dr. Hnaidi gave a lecture on the trends of modern Syrian poetry at Yarmouk University in Diyala Governorate, which sparked an important dialogue with university professors and students, and followed the dialogue with poetry readings.
Critic Nazir Jaafar, in turn, gave a lecture at the Diyala branch of the General Union of Writers entitled “War in the Syrian Novel” which witnessed a rich dialogue with the writers and interested attendees. Poet Asad Khader recited a group of his distinguished poems that were well received and interacted with by the attendees.
The Syrian Cultural Days concluded with an artistic meeting that included a theatrical performance and artistic activities.
Secretary-General of the Union of Writers in Iraq Omar Al-Saray and President of the Union of Writers of Iraq Ali Al-Fawaz expressed their thanks for the active participation of the Syrian delegation.
The Syrian delegation hoped that the bonds of cooperation between the two unions would deepen, and that the Iraqi Cultural Days would be held in Damascus as soon as possible.
The delegation had also participated in Al-Jawahiri Festival in Iraq, which concluded a few days ago and hosted a number of great Arab poets.
The festival’s activities included poetry sessions, in which the poets Hanidi and Khader participated, and left a good impression on everyone. Hnaidi also participated in the critical session dedicated to the works of the late poet Hasab Al-Sheikh Jaafar, with a critical paper entitled (The Poem Between Nazir Al-Azma and Hasab Al-Sheikh Jaafar), which was admired by the attendees and raised many questions from the participating critics.
The participating writers visited Al-Jawahiri House in Al-Qadisiyah, Baghdad, and were received by Dr. Khayal Al-Jawahiri, who briefed the delegations on the history of the house, its sections and its contents. The members of the Syrian delegation wrote words in the honor book.
