Defense Minister: Syrian Arab army foils US-Zionist plot

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Defense Minister has said that the Syrian Arab army has stood fast in fighting the Takfiri terrorism and the colonialist project, stressing that history will talk about this.

LT. General Fahed Jasim al-Freij’s remark came today during a phone interview with the Syrian TV channel on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Syrian Arab army.

He confirmed that the Syrian army units are able to press ahead with confronting any one tempts to impinge on national sovereignty.

“The US-Zionist plot has been foiled due to the steadfastness of the Syrian Arab army, which preserved homeland’s sovereignty and independence,” the minister said, adding that army units offered convoys of martyrs, who sacrificed themselves for defending the homeland.

He made it clear that the US-Zionist plot aims at ripping apart all countries of the region and imposing hegemony over them through supporting the Takfiri terrorist organizations, including the ISIS and the al-Nusra front.

Later today, the official news agency (SAN A) reported that Defense Minister visited army units in the southern region upon directives from President Bashar al-Assad.
