Defense Minister participates in celebration of Russian Navy Day in Tartous

Tartous, (ST) – On the occasion of Russia’s Navy Day, leadership of the Russian forces operating in Syria held an official ceremony on the shore of Tartous city.

The Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and the Armed ForcesGen. Ali Abdullah Ayoub attended the ceremony along with a number of Syrian and Russian military, officials, and public figures.

The ceremony was attended by the Syrian side, General Ali Abdullah Ayoub, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defense, a number of senior officers of the General Command of the Army and Armed Forces, the Governors of Latakia and Tartous, and a number of official and popular figures and a large audience from Tartous Governorate.  The participations on the Russian side were a commander and senior officers of the Russian forces working in Syria and the Russian ambassador to Damascus.

 

The celebration included a show of the participating Syrian and Russian naval vessels and a salute to the Russian sailors, in addition to a maritime show that simulates real combat activities in which modern warships, some submarines of the Russian naval fleet and some Syrian naval pieces took part.

At the end of the celebration, Russian fighters and helicopters carried out an air show.
