Decreasing Number of Russian Forces in Syria Comes after Achieving Major Gains in Joint War on Terrorism- al-Mikdad
TEHRAN, (ST)- Decreasing the number of Russian forces in Syria comes within the framework of the Syrian-Russian coordination and after the two sides have achieving major gains in their joint war on terrorism, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faysal al-Mikdad has underscored.
Al-Mikdad made the remarks during his meeting with Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council (Parliament) Ali Larijani on Tuesday in Tehran where the two sides discussed the latest developments in Syria and the region in addition to the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies in the war on terrorism.
The deputy minister affirmed that the Russian role in fighting terrorist organizations and their supporters will continue in Syria in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Army.
“The coming few days will witness more joint efforts against terrorist organizations in the Syrian desert, al-Mikdad said, referring to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin’s assertion that Russia will carry on its role until the terrorist organizations are eliminated.
The Syrian diplomat hailed Iran’s support for Syria in all domains as to enhance the steadfastness of the Syrian state and people against terrorism and against the western sanctions. He highly appreciated Iran’s keenness on Syria’s territorial integrity and on the unity of the Syrian people in the face of the Zionist Saudi conspiracy.
On his part Larijani affirmed Iran’s continuous support for Syria in the face of terrorism, hailing the gains being achieved by the Syrian army and its allies in the battle against terrorism.
Larijani expressed confidence that the Syrian state and people will triumph over terrorists and that terrorism will hit back against its supporters.
