ANKARA, (ST)- The death toll of the earthquake that hit the Turkish city of Izmir last Friday has reached 114. Hundreds of people were also injured.
Anadolu News Agency quoted the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management as saying that following the earthquake, a total of 1,621 aftershocks were recorded, 44 of them exceed a magnitude 4 on the Richter scale.
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake jolted the same region late Monday, the disaster agency added.
As of Wednesday morning, search and rescue efforts had ended and work has begun to clear the rubble of the flattened buildings.
On Tuesday, a 3-year-old girl was pulled out of the rubble alive, 91 hours after the earthquake struck.
Friday’s earthquake, the deadliest in Turkey for nearly a decade, leveled 17 buildings in Izmir.
