GENEVA, (ST)- Staffan de Mistura, the UN Special Envoy for Syria said on Sunday that he was “shocked” by the many rocket attacks launched by terrorist organizations on residential areas in Aleppo in the last 48 hours.
AFP quoted De Mistura as saying in a statement issued in Geneva that reliable reports citing sources on ground indicate that tens of civilian victims were killed and hundreds were wounded in Aleppo western districts including children because of random rocket attacks by the “armed opposition groups”.
He added “those who argue that this is meant to relieve the siege of eastern Aleppo should be reminded that nothing justifies the use of disproportionate and indiscriminate weapons, including heavy ones, on civilian areas and it could amount to war crimes.”
Terrorists, most of them are affiliated to “Jabhat al-Nusra” and “Nour Eddin Zinki” terror groups which are classified by Washington as “moderate opposition”, are targeting Aleppo with rocket and mortar fire on a daily basis. 16 people were martyred and 126 others were wounded including women and children over the past two days.
The Terrorist organizations have prevented civilians from leaving the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo and used them as human shields.
