De Mistura: Humanitarian pause in Aleppo Thursday is enough if it is applied quickly to implement medical evacuation

Geneva – UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura said that the humanitarian pause announced by Syria and Russia in Aleppo for 11 hours on Thursday is enough if it is applied quickly to implement a medical evacuation process from the eastern neighborhoods of the city, SANA reported.

General Command of the Army and armed forces on Thursday announced that the decision of suspending the air strikes on gunmen in the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo came as a preparation for the humanitarian pause that starts in the morning of October 20th, 2016.

 

De Mistura said, in an interview with Swiss RTS, that the pause is enough if it is applied quickly to implement a medical evacuation process, adding that what is needed at once is the ability to evacuate 200 injured people.

De Mistura pointed out that he has not thought of resigning from his post as UN Special Envoy to Syria.
