De Mistura: a political solution is the only solution to the crisis in Syria

Vienna, (ST) _ UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura stressed yesterday that a political solution is the only solution to the crisis in Syria and that President Assad is part of the said solution.

Following his meeting with the Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz, De Mistura considered “Daesh Terrorist organization as the only party that takes advantage of the situation in the absence of a solution in Syria,” pointing out that the terrorist organization “looks like a beast that waits the conflict to continue to benefit from the situation.”

De Mistura expressed his conviction that “the only solution is political.”

“President Bashar al-Assad is part of the solution” in Syria and we will continue to make important discussions with him, he emphasized.

President al-Assad reiterated, during his meeting with de Mistura, Syria’s keenness to support any initiative or ideas that contribute to the solution of the crisis, so as to secure lives of citizens and state institutions, stressing the need to pressure all countries concerned to implement UN Security Council resolutions 2170 and 2178 provide for halting financing and flow of terrorists into Syria.
