Daraa province’s notables launch “South Peace” initiative

A teamwork composed of notables and members of Parliament representing the southern Daraa province has been formed to communicate with governmental circles in order to carry out reconciliation in the areas that want to do that.

The formation of the teamwork comes within the framework of the “South Peace” initiative launched Sunday by 1000 persons from Daraa province in the cultural center in Daraa city, according to the Tishreen newspaper.

The paper quoted the representative of the national reconciliation committee in the southern region Mazen al-Hamidi as saying: “Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, everyone was asking about what is going on in Daraa. And I was telling them that Horan people are neither conspirators nor traitors…A lot of them had legitimate demands as President Bashar al-Assad said.. But this was exploited by others to fuel the conspiracy.”

He underlined the need to reach solutions. “As the crisis started in Daraa, we must work to start the solution from it.” Al-Hamidi added.

“The solution is in the hands of the Syrians .. Gunmen opened fire at the civilians, who raised the Syrian flag in one of Daraa areas.. those civilians want to express their support for the state,” he said.

The initiative is an attempt to stop the shedding  of blood and to restore peace, Dr. Khalid al-Matrod said, asserting that the beneficiary from the ongoing crisis in Syria is our enemies.

“We [Daraa people] do not serve Zionist agendas and Al Saud. We serve our country and we raise the flag of fraternity,” Daraa Mufti Sheikh Bassam Masalmeh said.

The destruction and killing happened in Daraa province in a systematic way under several pretexts are no longer acceptable, so the national initiative calls on all those who carry weapons against the state to hand over the guns and to return to their home in order to restore peace to the province of Daraa.

local committees containing notable figures from each area in Daraa province  will work on settling the status of the misled gunmen.

Last month, the Syrian army units recaptured the strategic Sheikh Meskin area in the northern countryside of Daraa in the wake of intensive operations against terrorist organizations’ groupings there.
