Dandi : Israeli occupation is pushing the region towards explosion

The Acting Chargé d’Affairs of the Permanent Delegation of Syria to the United Nations Al-Hakam Dandi has affirmed that the Israeli occupation is igniting the region and pushing it towards an explosion , that cannot be contained, by continuing its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people, and its repeated attacks on Syrian and Lebanese lands.

He noted that the General Assembly’s adoption by an overwhelming majority of a resolution demanding an immediate cessation of the occupation’s aggression against Gaza Strip represents a sincere expression of the conscience of the world and humanity.

Dandi’s remarks came in a statement last night after the General Assembly adopted a draft resolution, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza Strip, with a large majority of 153 in favor, 10 against and 23 abstentions.

He pointed out that Syria voted in favor of the draft resolution because it represents a sincere expression of the conscience of the world and humanity, and demands an immediate cessation of the brutal aggression against the Palestinian people, pointing out that Syria had some reservations about some of the  phrases contained therein that might be understood as equality between the Israeli occupier and the Palestinian people under occupation, between the executioner and the victim.

The Syrian Diplomat said:” The General Assembly will resume the tenth emergency special session to discuss the dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, in the light of the state of paralysis facing the Security Council as a result of the United States preventing it from assuming its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, and its insistence on supporting Israel to continue its brutal aggression against Gaza.

“We  appreciate the courageous step of the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres represented in bringing to the attention of  the Security Council, in accordance with Article 99 of the Charter, that what is happening in Gaza Strip threatens international peace and security, despite the fierce campaigns he is being subjected to” Dandi expressed.

The Syrian diplomat added ” We are resuming this session for the second time in less than two months, to address the insistence of the United States and some Western countries on liquidating the Palestinian cause and killing the children of Palestine in support of the Israeli entity, which is carrying out an unprecedented campaign of extermination, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 18,000 people and wounded more than 50,000, most of them children and women.

Dandi referred that the occupation continues to destroy the infrastructure in Gaza Strip, continues to blockade it,  prevents the delivery of humanitarian aid, and uses  internationally prohibited weapons, including incendiary phosphorus bombs, to adopt  a policy of mass destruction, thus committing various types of war crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide, disregarding all international laws and humanitarian principles.

Everyone knows that what is happening today in the occupied Palestinian territories did not begin on October 7, rather, it started decades ago as a result of Israel’s continued denial of the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital, and the continuation of the occupation aggressive practices since 1948, Dandi went on to say.

“Today, the Israeli occupation is igniting the region and pushing it towards an explosion that cannot be contained through its ongoing brutal crimes in Palestine, which coincides with its aggressive practices in the occupied Syrian Golan, its repeated attacks on Syrian territory, and its targeting of civilian airports and infrastructure in Syria. In addition, The Israeli entity continued its attacks on Lebanon in violation of the international law and the UN Charter, which proves once again that Israel is nothing but a tool for spreading chaos and terrorism in the region, and it is the main threat to regional and international peace and security, and all of this is under the cover of the United States and its allies who have recently resorted to amassing their fleets on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean and provided unprecedented material and military support for their tool, the Israeli entity,” Dandi clarified.

He reiterated that the United States’ use of veto again in the Security Council, its standing against the will of the vast majority of the Council members, and its blocking of a draft resolution whose goal was to reach a humanitarian ceasefire, constitute a shameful insult to humanitarian standards, expose the lie about concern for the lives of civilians and prove that Washington and other Western countries are waging war in Gaza Strip on the side of the Israeli occupation, with the sole goal of annihilating the Palestinian people, and establishing what is called (Greater Israel) on the remains of the children and women of Palestine after the destruction of their homes and cultural heritage.

Instead of allowing the Security Council to carry out its responsibilities after more than two months of massacres and genocide war, the US veto came to grant war criminals a new license to continue committing massacres, destruction and displacement, he said.

Dandi pointed out that the failure of the Security Council several times to stop the aggression encouraged “Israel” to continue with its systematic criminality under the pretext of its alleged right to self-defense, at a time when some Western countries are shedding crocodile tears over the values of humanity in other regions of the world, in a blatant international hypocrisy and duality in dealing with the values of truth and justice in accordance with the interests of major Western countries.

He expressed Syria’s regret and deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Gaza Strip, condemning in the strongest terms the continuing barbaric Israeli aggression against the brotherly Palestinian people, and the occupation’s repeated attacks on Syrian lands and on the people in the occupied Syrian Golan, and also condemning some Western countries’ cover-up for the Israeli violations in Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.
