DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has stressed that the Syrian state won’t allow any party, be it a permanent member of the Security Council or not, to repeat the Iraqi and Libyan scenarios in Syria.
In a Security Council meeting late Tuesday on the situation in Syria, al-Jaafari said the western countries’ threats to launch an aggression on Syria, besides their misinformation campaigns and support for terrorists won’t affect Syria’s determination to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression.
He added that violating the system of the non-proliferation of Mass Destruction Weapons (WMD) has been the specialization of western countries, citing as examples the use of nuclear weapon by the United States in Japan, the use of biological and chemical weapon in Vietnam, the use of depleted Uranium in Iraq and the use of atomic bombs by France against Algerians citizens.
Al-Jaafari went on to say that the “monster” that has funded, armed and sponsored terrorism in Syria over the past seven years is the United States, Britain and France, noting that these countries have done the same in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan through sponsoring the terrorist organizations of al-Qaeda, Taliban, Daesh and then Jabhat al-Nusra, Jaish al-Islam, Failaq al-Rahman, as well as the White Helmets which is the least invention by the UK intelligence body.
He pointed out that in response to the allegations made against Syria by some western countries in the wake of the fake reports on the alleged use of chemical weapon in Douma in eastern Ghouta of Damascus, the Syrian government officially invited the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW) to send a fact finding mission to Douma as to investigate the alleged use of chemical weapon there.
Syria welcomes the OPCW fact-finding team’s visit
Al-Jaafari made it clear that the Syrian Arab Republic welcomes the OPCW fact-finding team’s visit and express its readiness to adopt all necessary procedures to ensure the safety of the team’s members and to provide needed facilitations to help the mission carry out its job transparently and professionally.
The Syrian diplomat affirmed that the US, France and Britain are the parties which foiled the UN-OPCW Joint Investigative Mechanism through their insistence to politicize the mechanism’s work and through their attempts to blackmail its leaderships which abandoned their credibility and professionalism and issued fabricated reports accusing the Syrian government of using chemical weapon based on fake evidence and fabricated information.
What happened today in the Security Council is similar to the scenario dealt with when the United States launched a flagrant aggression on al-Shayrat airbase based on fabrications and false reports accusing the Syrian army of using chemical weapon in Khan Sheikhoun, al-Jaafri said, noting that the lies were uncovered when the US and its allies prevented the investigative mechanism experts from visiting Khan Sheikhoun and collecting samples.
Al-Jaafari criticized the colonial countries’ immoral policies which seek destroying the region’s countries, stealing their resources and blackmailing them to achieve their own interests.
He clarified that some permanent Security Council member states are now planning to launch aggression on sovereign countries only to cover up their internal crises.
“We, in Syria, believe that after seven years of terrorist war imposed on the country, options are clear but constitute a big challenge to the majority of the council’s members in terms of confronting the misinformation campaigns and the immoral policies practiced by the United States, France and Britain to get them involved in their conspiracies.
The Syrian diplomat called on the Security Council members to support a multi-polar moral political world order, that believes in international law and in countries and peoples’ right to determine their future, by refusing the economic, political and military hegemony policies.
Syria renews its strong condemnation of using chemical weapons by any party under any circumstances and in any place. Syria is keen on cooperating with the OPCW to uncover the truth behind the allegations that some western countries have been circulating to justify their aggressive intentions and to serve their political agendas in the country, al-Jaafari said, noting that the destroyers of these countries are now in the Mediterranean in preparation for their aggression on Syria.
“Your threats, misinformation campaigns and terrorism won’t prevent us, as a founder state of the United Nations, from doing our national duty to preserve the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country against any aggression by whoever and we won’t allow any party, be it permanent member or not to repeat the Iraqi and Libyan scenarios in Syria.
