Damascus, Tehran to enhance real economic and trade partnership

Damascus, (ST) – Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, held a session of talks on Wednesday with the Vice-President of the Shura Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Ali Nikzad, that included issues of common interest between the two countries.

Miqdad affirmed the depth of Syrian-Iranian relations in all political and economic fields, especially parliamentary ones. He pointed to Syria’s interest in parliamentary diplomacy and its important role at this stage, and channeling  this interest through parliamentary participation between the two countries in various international forums.

 Minister Miqdad called for enhancing economic relations between the two countries for the benefit of the Syrian and Iranian peoples.

Miqdad condemned the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States of America and its Western allies on Syria and Iran, describing these sanctions as “immoral.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also praised the political wisdom of the Iranian leadership and its careful management of the Vienna meetings on the Iranian nuclear file. He called on the United States and Western countries to return to this agreement unconditionally.

For his part, Dr. Ali Nikzad emphasized the brotherly relations that unite the two countries and the Iranian and Syrian peoples, as well as the determination of Tehran and Damascus alike to strive seriously to achieve real economic and trade partnership, especially in the reconstruction phase.

Dr. Nikzad added that, he is currently in Damascus to meet with his counterparts from the Syrian People’s Assembly and with Syrian officials in order to consult with them and discuss all issues related to activating parliamentary and economic relations and trade exchange and increasing its volume between the two countries.

In a press statement after his meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Nikzad said that, the strategic relations between Iran and Syria have never ceased, and we have a common vision regarding global developments. He stressed that his country continues to support Syria in the reconstruction phase.

He added that, the blood of the martyrs in both countries is what  defeated the terrorist organization ISIS. This blood is what made Europe safe world.

Nikzad reiterated his country’s position rejecting foreign interference and unilateral US sanctions against Syria. He stressed that the Iranian government will spare no effort to help Syria cross this stage, especially with regard to trade, economy and fuel.
