Damascus Reacts to Arab Summit Communiqué, Reiterates Iranian Presence in Syria Legitimate

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has rejected the content of the final communiqué of the emergency Arab summit, held in Saudi Arabia on May 30th regarding what Riyadh calls “the Iranian intervention in the Syrian affairs” and stressed that this communiqué by itself is considered as unacceptable interference in Syria’s internal affairs, according to an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

“The Syrian Arab Republic stresses that the Iranian presence in Syria has been legitimate because it came at the request of the Syrian government and it has supported Syria’s efforts in the fight against terrorism which is backed by some countries including by those meeting in this summit,” the source told SANA.

“It had been better for the summit to condemn the illegal intervention in the Syrian affairs by other countries which have been providing limitless support and all forms of assistance to the terrorist groups in Syria and seeking prolonging the crisis.
