Damascus key role in strengthening joint Arab trade union action highlighted

With the participation of delegations from 12 Arab countries representing the vocational unions of construction and wood workers, Damascus on Monday hosted the 9th general conference of the Arab vocational Federation of Trade Unions of Workers in Construction, Wood, and Building Materials, at the Arab Institute for Labor Studies.

Secretary-General of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions and the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria Jamal Al-Qadiri said in a speech that the participants in the conference affirmed Damascus key role in defending labor issues and preserving joint Arab trade union action. He added that the participants expressed their keenness to support all the countries targeted by aggression and conspiracies and they asserted their support for all forms of Arab struggle to preserve what workers have built over many decades and to confront plans targeting Arab countries.

For his part, the head of the Vocational Union of Construction and Wood Workers in Syria Khalaf Al-Hanoush said that the conference is being held to shed light on Arab labor issues, discuss issues that concern Arab construction and wood workers and know how to benefit from Arab expertise in the process of reconstruction in Syria. He explained that this can be achieved through enhancing the participatory action between unions, expanding the establishment of factories, bringing in investors like the white cement factory that was established in partnership with Jordan, learning about the reality of engineering machinery and equipment in the rest of the countries and introducing them to the Syrian labor market, given the destruction caused to the Syrian construction sector by terrorism.
