Damascus briefs UNSC on Fatwas instigating terrorism

DAMASCUS,(ST)_Foreign and Expatriates Ministry has said that the Fatwasand Takfiri statements issued by the so -called “World Muslim Scholars Union” and group of Sheikhs for instigating terrorism in Syria contradict human and religious values, international law, and the UN resolutions.

In a letter sent today to the UN security Council, the ministry made it clear that such Fatwasand statements serve al-Qaeda and affiliated Takfiri movements operating  in Syria, and falls within the framework of the aggressive instigation campaign led by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and some western states.

“Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, and for more than two years, Head of the so -called “World Muslim Scholars Union”, Yousef al-Qardawi  and a group of Sheikhs and scholars, such as Abdulaziz Abdullah Al al-Sheikh and Mohammad al-Orifi (from Saudi Arabia), Safwat Hejazi and Mohammad Hassan (from Egypt) and Shafi Sultan al-Ajami (from Kuwait) have relentlessly worked to issue Fatwasand statements instigating terrorism and supporting those who are practicing it,” the ministry said.

It added : “On May,31st , 2013,al-Qardawi called, during Friday sermon, for bloodshed, hatred, fanaticism and ‘Jihad’. He designated one of the doctrines in Syria as ‘more infidel’ than ‘Christian and Jews’ by that he calls for targeting the three religions which are widespread all over the world.”

Cairo conference’s statement encourages terrorism

“To support his instigation and to fuel sedition, al-Qardawi and some ‘scholars of seditions’ held on June 12-13 a conference in Cairo under the title ‘ in support of the Syrian people’  during which the speakers instigated extremism and fanaticism.”

The ministry noted that the statement issued by the Cairo Conference directly called for recruiting armed terrorists from all over the world and sending them to Syria to systematically perpetrate massacres against the Syrian citizens and to destroy Syria’s civilization under the pretext of saving the Syrian people.

‘World Muslim Scholars Union’

“The so-called “World Muslim Scholars Union” slammed the UN resolution related to blacklisting al-Nusra Front which is considered by the union as one of the ‘Syria revolution’s groups’,” it added.

The ministry also clarified that the headquarter of the union, which was established in 2004 in Ireland, moved to Qatar in 2012 and turned to be a main source for instigating and funding terrorism and sedition.

It described the Fatwas as a blatant meddling in Syria’s internal affairs.

The ministry appealed to the UNSC to fulfill its role in combating terrorism and to press terrorism supporters, particularly Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and France, to halt their violations that pose a threat to security and stability in Syria and the whole region as well.

“Once again, Syria warns against dangerous of spread of terrorism and Takfiri thinking as well as involvement in supporting al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri terrorism being practiced by al-Nusra Front, its allies, and the so-called ‘Free Syrian Army’,” it concluded.
