Czech PM: EU Played Negative Role in Syria

PRAGUE, (ST)- The European Union has played a negative role towards the crisis in Syria through its policies and its failure to contribute to finding a solution to this crisis, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš told the Czech Newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes on Tuesday.

“The European Union should have contributed to solving the crisis in Syria which has caused many problems for the European countries themselves,” Babiš said, noting the need for cooperation between Russia and the US to find peaceful settlement in Syria.

On his part, Jan Hamacek, the Czech Foreign Minister, announced that the government of his country has programs to help restore stability in Syria and Iraq and to contribute to reconstructing the two countries.

In remarks during a meeting with the accredited ambassadors of the Czech Republic in the world, Hamacek said that uncontrolled waves of immigration pose a threat to Europe, so the goal of the foreign policy must be seeking an end to the reasons behind immigration mainly wars and bad economic conditions in the countries around Europe.
