DAMASCUS, (ST)- A plane carrying humanitarian aid from the Czech Republic to the Syrian people arrived Sunday evening at Damascus Airport.
The aid is presented by the Czech Red Cross to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARC).
Marek Jukl, President of the Czech Red Cross, told reporters upon arrival in Damascus that the aid is the first batch of Czech humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, noting that at least another plane with humanitarian aid will is be sent to Syria soon.
He pointed out that the Czech Red Cross wanted to help SARC carry out its mission in providing assistance to those who need in Syria, noting that the aid includes field kitchens and medical materials prepared according to SARC request.
Jukl stressed that the Czech Red Cross in cooperation with the government of the Czech republic will seek bigger contribution to humanitarian aid to the Syrians in future.
On his part, SARC President Abdul Rahman al-Attar thanked the Czech people, government and Red Cross for their initiative, hoping for boosting relations between the two sides.
“This initiative expresses the independence of the Czech decision,” al-Attar said, noting that the aid will be distributed to all Syrian provinces to meet citizens’ needs.
