Czech Foreign Minister: we are keen on keeping diplomatic relations with Syria

Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky stressed his country’s keenness to maintain diplomatic relations with Syria and maintain the Czech diplomatic representation in Damascus.

“The Czech Republic will always strive to have diplomatic representation in Damascus,” Lipavsky said in a statement, commenting on the end of Czech Ambassador Eva Filipi’s mission to Damascus.

Lipavsky explained that it is crucial for the Czech Republic to maintain diplomatic coverage in the entire Middle East region, noting that his country has embassies and diplomats in all important places in the region.

The Czech foreign minister stressed the importance of diplomacy being primarily in the pursuit of conflict prevention, especially in today’s turbulent and war-filled world.

It is noteworthy that President Bashar al-Assad yesterday awarded the ambassador of the Czech Republic to Damascus Filippi the Syrian Order of Merit of the excellent class in honor of her efforts in the development of Syrian-Czech relations, and in recognition of her dedication in performing her duties as ambassador of her country in Syria.
