Culture Minister calls to return to authority of culture with all its positive contents

Yerevan – Minister of Culture Issam Khalil affirmed that humanity is witnessing a dreadful project which aims to ruin minds, absolve thinking and reasoning, and adopt a trend towards acquiring information from the fastest sources without checking the validity or reliability of these sources.

During a speech at the third international conference of “Cultural Policy and Policy for Culture” which concluded its activities on Monday in Yerevan, Armenia, Khalil said that modern technological developments didn’t help in changing the “culture of authority into an authority of culture,” asserting that the authority of culture is the force that can cause humanity to transcend instincts and achieve intellectual advancement.

He noted that the advances in communications technology has created a state of human dissociation, creating rifts between people and their surroundings, which serves a project that seeks to homogenize thought to make it controllable and malleable.

The minister asserted the importance of holding this conference in Armenia, saying “we are gathered today in a country that witnessed barbaric massacres a hundred years ago… the twisted Ottoman mentality that committed those crimes is still perpetrating similar crimes, but this time against Syrians by supporting terrorism in all possible ways.”

He added that letting Ottomans avoid legal liability for their crimes will encourage others to commit more brutal massacres.

In a statement to SANA on the sideline of the conference, Armenian Ambassador in Damascus Arshak Poladian said that Syria is an integral player in the region and the whole world due to its geographic importance, its people’s culture, its stances that supports human justice, and its commitment to combating terrorism.

Yerevan, the capital and largest city of Armenia, hosted the Cultural Policy and Policy for Culture conference on July 11-13. Participants from 45 countries and international organizations attended the event, which commemorated the 70th anniversary of establishing the UNESCO.

The conference also released a statement that condemns the “cultural genocide” in the region and called for combating terrorism.
