Daraa (ST) – The number of forest plants planted in different areas in Daraa since the beginning of the afforestation campaign, launched by the Directorate of Agriculture from the beginning of this month to date, has reached 1,500 different plants.
The head of the Forestry Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Eng. Jamil Al-Abdullah, said in a statement to SANA that the department, under the slogan ‘For a better climate, we plant trees’, is implementing afforestation campaigns, in cooperation with various trade unions, popular organizations, schools and universities. The afforestation aims to restore the vegetation cover that was destroyed during the last few years, which included a number of schools in the cities of Daraa, al-Sanamayn, and al-Yadouda town.
Al-Abdullah indicated that the Forestry Department provides a large number of various plantings of cypress, stone pine, spruce, acacia, eucalyptus, oleander, and ligustrum. He noted that the campaign will continue until the desired goal is reached by planting about 80 hectares of forest plants.
The amount of sales of the Forestry Department since the beginning of this month until today reached 2,273 different forestry plants.
In a related context, Martyr Ismail Abu Nabout School, in the city of Daraa, in cooperation with the Daraa branch of the Revolutionary Youth Union, carried out an afforestation campaign for the schoolyards.
