Cuban President renews his country’s support for Syria

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel renewed his country’s position in support of Syria and rejecting any measures targeting its sovereignty, independence, and the unity of Syrian people and lands.

During his meeting with the Syrian Ambassador to Cuba Ghassan Obaid on the sidelines of the opening of the “ University Congress 2024”  held in the Cuban capital, Havana, the Cuban President expressed his wishes for prosperity and stability to the brotherly Syrian people.

For his part, Ambassador Obaid thanked the Cuban President, stressing the steadfastness of the Syrian position in support of Cuba in its struggle against the US economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on it for more than six decades, and which is similar to the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria by Western countries and the United States.

Ambassador Obaid stressed Syria’s stand which calls for immediately lifting the siege and the unfair, inhumane and illegal coercive measures imposed on the Syrian and Cuban peoples, which are the main obstacle to the development and reconstruction process in both countries.

He praised the efforts made by Cuba to make the important and useful “University  congress 2024”  a success, pointing out that the congress discusses various issues and topics related to the higher education sector and hoping that the conference will achieve its goals.
