Cuban President reiterates the need to achieve progress in the political process on settlement in Syria

NEW YORK, (ST)- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has stressed the need to achieve progress in the political process to find a solution to the crisis in Syria.

In a statement during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly Canel said that political settlement in Syria must be achieved without any foreign interference and should be based on respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Cuban president called for a just solution to the conflict in the Middle East through helping the Palestinian people practice their firm right to establish their state within the 1967 borders with “eastern al-Quds” as its capital. He condemned the Israeli entity’s plans to annex new areas from the West Bank.

Canel voiced his country’s solidarity with Iran in the face of the US aggressive behavior and condemned NATO’s attempts to expand its presence on the borders with Russia and denounced the unfair sanctions imposed on Moscow.

He also condemned foreign interference in China’s internal affairs, rejecting any attempt to harm the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China.

Canel lashed out at the foreign interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, reaffirming his country’s solidarity with the legitimate President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and the Belarusian people.
