Cuban President condemns brutal Israeli bombing of  Gaza Strip

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned in the strongest terms the brutal bombing carried out by the Israeli occupation entity on the Gaza Strip, the killing of its people and the destruction of their homes, hospitals and civilian infrastructure.

In a televised speech published by the Cuban presidency today, Diaz-Canel stressed that nothing can justify what the Israeli occupation forces are doing in Gaza, and nothing can justify the serious violations of international humanitarian law that they are committing.

He pointed out that the United States’ use of its veto power against a proposal that simply calls for a humanitarian truce in Gaza in order to allow aid to arrive is not surprising because Washington has historically played the role of an accomplice to Zionist barbarism by repeatedly obstructing the work of the Security Council with regard to Palestine.

He said, “Every moment of inaction and negativity will cost more innocent lives. Therefore, we must act immediately and contribute to international efforts aimed at ending this brutality. History will not forgive the indifferent, and we will not be among them.”

He stressed the rejection of any selectivity that seeks to ignore the danger of genocide being practiced against the Palestinians today and to show the Israeli side as if it were the victim, and to ignore 75 years of aggression, occupation, violations and exclusion against the Palestinian people.

He added that “Israel” is violating all United Nations resolutions and all its obligations as an occupying power under the Fourth Geneva Convention, considering that the paralysis of the Security Council on this issue will ensure its continued evasion of responsibilities.

The Cuban President said, “A comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the conflict inevitably requires the real exercise of the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to build their independent and sovereign state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
