Cuban President calls for supporting Syria against US hegemony schemes

BAKU, (ST)- Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel has called on the peoples and governments of the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to support Syria and other independent states against the hegemony schemes and aggressive policies of the United States.

Delivering Cuba’s speech at the 18th NAM summit currently held in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku, President Diaz-Canel stressed that peoples of the world should join efforts to face the aggressive policies of the US administration against them. He reiterated the importance of dialogue in solving international conflicts.

The Cuban leader reaffirmed his country’s rejecting of the unilateral decisions made by the United States to support Israel and back its attacks on independent sovereign states. He called for putting an end to the terrorist war targeting the Syrian people and for finding a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause.

He condemned the American administration’s interference in the internal affairs of the Latin American countries and its constant attempts to destabilize them, calling for backing the democratically-elected governments of Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Bolivia which are facing heinous campaigns.

The Cuban president also called for lifting the economic, trade and financial siege imposed by the United States on Cuba, reiterating that the Cuban people will keep steadfast in the face of the pressure and threats of their enemies.
