Damascus, (ST) – The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Damascus organized a reception last night on the occasion of the sixty-fifth anniversary of the victory of the Cuban Revolution, at the Officers Club in Damascus.
In his speech, the Cuban Ambassador to Damascus, Miguel Porto Parga stressed the depth of the historical relations and ties that unite Cuba and Syria, which go back 57 years. “The two countries share common positions based on unity, solidarity and cooperation to confront hostile campaigns and a mutual will to maintain positions in all international forums and to support the just causes of the peoples of the world who are struggling for self-determination and the preservation of their sovereignty”, he added.
Parga pointed out that his country will continue to support the right of the Syrian people to their freedom, independence and sovereignty. He said that both Cuba and Syria have faced conspiracies and continuous aggression and are subject to unjust unilateral sanctions by the United States of America
The Cuban Ambassador stressed that the Cuban people will continue to struggle to build a new society despite the great restrictions and challenges imposed on them.
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Mikdad, affirmed that the Cuban revolution will always remain in the heart of Syria. He praised the honorable positions of Cuba for standing by Syria firmly in its war to restore its rights and liberate its lands and confront the conspiracy and terrorist aggression against it, and its support for it in international forums.
Minister Al-Mikdad said that the two countries are exposed to the same war and aggression from imperialism represented by the United States in its worst forms.
Al-Mikdad stressed that Syria will continue to support Cuba in confronting the blockade imposed on it.
