Cuba Reiterates Support for Political Solution in Syria, Rejects Foreign Interference in Syria’s Internal Affairs

HAVANA, (ST)-Marking the 50th anniversary of establishing of Syrian-Cuban diplomatic ties, the Syrian Embassy in Cuba held a ceremony to celebrate the occasion.

Rolando Riccihio, Representative of the Cuban Foreign Ministry and Director of the ministry’s Middle East and North Africa Department, stressed his country’s rejection of all forms of interference in Syria’s internal affairs.

He affirmed Cub’s support for political solution in Syria, reiterating that Syria’s future should be decided only by the Syrian people under the current legitimate leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad.

Riccihio expressed Cuba’s condemnation of the crimes perpetrated by the terrorists against the Syrian people and of financing terrorism in Syria.

“Cuba is against any harm targeting Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, “ the Cuban official said, hailing the historical distinguished ties between Syria and Cuba, the foundation of which was laid by Late leader Hafez a-Al-Assad and Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro. He stressed that these relations will continue to be enhanced under the leadership of Presidents Bashar Al-Assad and Raoul Castro.

On his part, Prof. Rodrigo Alvarez Cambras, Chairman of the Arab-Cuban Friendship Society, said “the Syrians are facing global terrorism that aims at destroying Syria, undermining the state and killing its people.”

“Cuba will keep supporting the Syrian people’s right to defend their sovereignty and independence in the confrontation of the internationally-backed war on their country,” Cambras said, urging an immediate stop of this war.

He thanked Syria for its solidarity and unlimited support to Cuba at international forums and highly appreciated the Syrian state’s call for lifting the unjust American siege on the Cuban people.

Louay al-Awajy, the Charge d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Cuba, said Cuba and Syria have been in the same trench in the confrontation of imperialist conspiracies, imperialism’s tools and allies and reactionary regimes.

He reiterated that the Zionist entity is only beneficiary from undermining Syria’s key resistant role in the region and from destroying the state’s institutions and army.
