HAVANA, (ST)-Health Minister Nizar Yazigi has stressed that Cuba is ready to meet all Syria’s needs of medicines, pointing out that Cuba is one of the leading countries in manufacturing cancer and chronic diseases medicine as well as vaccines.
In a statement to SANA at the end of his visit to Havana, Yazigi said “the Cuban officials expressed readiness to provide Syria with all its needs of medicines in reciprocation to Syria’s support for Cuba during the unjust siege imposed on the Cuban people.”
Yazigi pointed out that during his visit an agreement and a memorandum of understanding were signed with the Cuban side on sending vaccines and cancer medicines to Syria. The two sides also discussed economic cooperation to establish partnership between Syria and Cuba, he said.
“Cuba is one of the leading countries in quality pharmaceutical industries; a quality that encourage Syria to work as to transfer biotechnology expertise to Syria,” Yazigi said, adding that Syria can be the starting point from where this technology can be transferred to the entire Middle East.
The Cuban deputy Prime Minster told Yazigi during the visit that “there is a serious Cuban political will to provide all forms of support to Syria under the ongoing crisis in appreciation of the Syrian government’s firm support for Cuba during the crisis it passed through in the 1990s.”
