HAVANA, (ST)- The Cuban Education Minister Ena Elsa Velázquez has condemned the terrorist groups’ attacks against Syrian schools, universities and research centers, hailing the Syrian government’s efforts to keep providing education services in the country.
During her meeting with Syria’s Higher Education Minister Atef Naddaf on the sidelines of the 11th International Conference on Higher Education in Havana, Velázquez said “Cuba, as people and leadership, is following up with great concern the developments in Syria and it highly appreciates the heroism and victories of the Syrian Arab Army in the fight against terrorism.”
On his part, Naddaf explained the Syrian education experience, noting qualitative steps in this field despite the systematic attacks launched by foreign-backed terrorist organizations on schools and universities in Syria and which aimed at returning Syria to the ages of backwardness through disseminating extremism and takfirism in the Syrian society.
“The education process went on in most of Syria’s schools during the crisis thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian army,” Naddaf added, affirming that the government has spared no effort as to rehabilitate the damaged schools and to establish new schools in the makeshift housing centers which hosted displaced people from areas held by terrorists.
