UNITED NATIONS, (ST)- Cuba has called for putting an end to foreign interference in Syria’s internal affairs and reiterated its support for political solution to the crisis in the country.

Anayansi Rodriguez, Cuba’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, said during the 32nd session of the Human Rights Council on Tuesday “there is a need to attain peace, fight extremism and stop foreign interference in Syria in order to preserve the country’s rich culture and heritage.”

She affirmed her rejection to all attempts aiming to undermine Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Cuban diplomat expressed concern over the deadlock in efforts to solve the crisis in Syria due to some parties attempts to prolong armed confrontation in the country.

She said “the international community, particularly the foreign powers which helped create extremist groups and the foreign-backed opposition forces, should work as to put an end to the process of training and funding these groups and to use this funding in rebuilding Syria.”
